Frequently asked questions
Which areas do you work in?
The studio is based at Patney in Wiltshire and works across Wiltshire, Hampshire, Oxfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Berkshire, Sussex, the Cotswolds and London. The practice also works elsewhere in the United Kingdom and internationally.
What kinds of projects does the practice take on?
Private gardens, country estates, historic and listed landscapes, and public commissions. Work shown on this site ranges from the Centenary Garden at Exbury Gardens and the garden at Maggie’s Centre in Leeds to private gardens across the Home Counties and show gardens at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show.
What does the practice do besides designing gardens?
Alongside garden and landscape design, the practice offers landscape planning, estate planning, urban planning, planting design and horticulture, landscape management for established gardens and estates, costing reviews, and landscape evidence for Public Inquiries. Projects are taken from concept through to construction and planting, including supervision on site.
Who leads the practice?
Marie-Louise Agius (MA, Dip Garden Design, MSGD) is Senior Director. She is an award-winning garden designer, an RHS judge and a Director of Exbury Gardens. She holds a Master’s degree from the University of Edinburgh and trained in landscape design at KLC School of Design in London. The practice has been working for more than thirty years.
Why are clients and locations not named on the project pages?
Private garden and estate commissions are carried out under strict non-disclosure agreements, and the studio publishes only those projects it has the client’s permission to share. Where work does appear here, it is identified by its county or property type alone — client names and addresses are deliberately withheld.
How should I get in touch about a project?
Email info@balstonagius.co.uk or telephone +44 (0)1380 848181. The studio is at Long Barn, Manor Farm Lane, Patney, Wiltshire, SN10 3RB. It helps to say where the site is and what you have in mind.
